Can you believe it's June already?  Heading into the half time of the first year of Trump.

He has a genuine war going on in Iran.  And much of the federal government has been dismantled, especially notable -- gone is the surplus food that America's USAID used to send to the 148 million children of the world suffering from malnutrition and the 45 million little ones who endure severe acute chronic malnutrition. That surplus food is now setting in warehouses rotting because the USAID program was one of those programs cut by the new administration.

And we now have millions of cases of measles worldwide, Central Africa is actively fighting Ebola, Dengue is spreading rapidly across South America, there is an escalating threat of bacteria and microbes no longer responding to standard medications, making infections harder to treat, tuberculosis remains a top global killer for a single infectious agent, and America's Secretary of Health & Human Services, Robert Kennedy, Jr., spent the weekend wrangling snakes on Dr. Oz's patio.

Of course, there is good news to report.  President Trump has accumulated an estimated $4.2 billion in personal wealth since assuming office for his second term, which brings his total net worth now to about $6.5 billion.

He did say in so many words he's really not thinking about the struggle Americans are having dealing with food and gasoline prices now.  But then, it probably does take up a big chunk of his time counting all that money!

The story of the Sullivan Data Center is just too sad.  It seemed like such a wonderful opportunity for the little town to get its big break.  Lots of money flowing in for workers to build and really good permanent jobs after it was open, not to mention the assessed valuation such a giant operation would add to their tax base.  It is just hard to imagine the big money boys will not even use local construction people to build their big money machine.

Folks on the east side of town are still grumbling about the new traffic configuration that squeezes Ohio Street down to 2-lanes at 13th Street.  It's a mad dash from 3:30 p.m. until about 6 p.m. as traffic bobs and weaves, drivers trying to figure out a navigation plan. Hmmm...give it time.

Oh, and the boys at Saline City wanted me to remind you of their big shindig on June 20, 2026. There will be a Vendors Market, Jonah Fish Fry (4-6 p.m.), and the fabulous MARC ROGERS BAND will perform with a free stage show — that's 4 to 6 p.m. as well. After the show, there will be a fantastic TRUCK & TRACTOR SUPER PULL from 6 p.m. until it's over!  Show up early and stay late -- and bring your own lawn chair!  You really don't want to miss this!  Saline City really knows how to entertain folks!

And speaking of big blowouts, this year's 'BANKS OF THE WABASH FESTIVAL' was a humdinger!  Terrific free entertainment at the bandshell.  And the biggest midway with the grandest rides you could imagine.  Kids were over the moon with the entire setup -- and parents were extremely pleased with the "Buy One - Get one Free" ticket deal. The rides really were grand -- they positively thrilled the kids.  And there were lots of terrific eats and refreshing drinks for some really hot days and nights!  You could hear the squeals of delight coming off the midway all the way to 7th and Wabash!

Nicely done, everyone!  Standing ovation!!! Way to go, City of Terre Haute!

This Saturday, June 6th, is the Indiana State Democratic Convention in Indianapolis.  The hot race is for the nomination for Secretary of State. Candidates seeking the nomination are Bo (Birch Evans Bayh) and Blythe Potter.

Beau Bayh has strong Vigo County ties as son of former Indiana Governor Evan and the late Susan Bayh, and grandson of Indiana Senator Birch E. Bayh.  Bayh, a former U.S. Marine who served in Afghanistan,  is an attorney, graduating from Indiana University and Harvard Law School. Bo has strong Vigo County ties in that both his father and grandfather are natives of Vigo County.

Blythe Potter is a small business owner in Bargersville, Indiana, and holds an MBA.  She also served in the military police during the Iraq War. She served on the personal protective detail for Arm Gen. George Casey, then Commander of Multi-National Forces-Iraq.

The Democratic nominee we might be running against incumbent Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales, a free-wheeling character who has his own idea of how a state elected official should conduct himself and what laws he should or should not obey.  But State Republicans are scampering around, trying to figure out the best way and the best opponent to nominate to knock  him out of that corner office.  He's a one-man wrecking crew for rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, state Democrats will assemble at their convention Saturday at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Indianapolis.

That's not all we know, but it's all we're telling — till next week!
